Performing the British Asian Diaspora

A STUDY DAY BY THE SOCIETY FOR THEATRE RESEARCH
This Study Day will highlight an emerging area of performance research: Contemporary British Asian drama and performance. The aim is to facilitate sharing of research and critical insights into the work and aesthetics of theatre-makersplaywrights, and performers from the British Asian diaspora

Presentations will address British Asian theatre practice and artistic strategies, as well as the influences of globalisation, interculturalism and migration upon the development of British Asian drama and performance practices. 
Topics include:

  • Theatre and the construction of British Asian identity
  • Revisioning the Empire: British Asian 
    perspectives
  • Performance, gender and identity
  • Tradition and innovation in contemporary performance
  • Hybridity and transnationalism

Saturday 28 October, 10.00 – 17.00
Study Day fees: £20/£10 concessions (students, pensioners and the unemployed). 

After the Study Day, join us to see Tara Arts ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ at 19.30at the New Players Theatre, The Arches (Charing Cross).
Study Day fees do NOT include the cost of theatre tickets.
